The minimum square foot area for a habitable room is 70 sq. ft. except kitchens. IRC 304.1. The minimum horizontal dimension, that is at least one dimension of a room must be 7 feet. Again, except the kitchen. IRC 304.2. So you cannot have a 5 foot by 10 foot room because that is only 50 sq. ft.
